The grading bench, Almas Tower — where every stone is assessed before an offer is made.

The House

Since 1983, on the right side of the loupe

Founded in Dubai in 1983 by two families already trading in the Gulf gem markets, and trading continuously ever since. This business still runs on the word of people who have been in it long enough to be known.

We are not a retailer. No showroom, no seasonal collection, no marketing budget to recover from the price we offer you. We buy because someone in our network wants exactly what you hold — and that demand sets the number.

A brass plaque engraved with the Sayyid & Najjar Co. wordmark, mounted on dark stone

Forty-two years

The plaque went up in 1983. This is simply the first time you can find us online.

We have never advertised, never held a showroom and never listed a stone publicly. Business arrived by introduction, and for four decades that was enough. This site exists so that it is easier to reach us — not because anything about how we trade has changed.

Certificate Verification

Trust the stone. Then verify the paper.

The most trusted document in the diamond trade, and for that reason the most forged. Checking one is free and takes under a minute.

We pass your query straight to GIA’s own database. We hold no copy of their data — the record you see is GIA’s, not ours.

  • Confirm the grading record held in GIA’s archive
  • Cross-check the laser inscription on the girdle
  • Compare every line — colour, clarity, cut, fluorescence
  • Identify altered or entirely fabricated documents

Why sell to us

Four reasons the number is different here

01

We price against the trade, not the till

Offers benchmarked to live international wholesale levels. A retailer’s buy-back must carry a showroom; we carry a broker with a buyer waiting.

02

Four decades on the same bench

The principals who grade your stone have been doing it since the 1980s — which is why an uncertified old-European cut holds no fear for us.

03

The arithmetic is shown

Every offer arrives with its reasoning: the comparables, the benchmark, the deductions. A number without working is not a valuation.

04

Nothing is listed or published

A private-treaty house. Your name is never attached to anything we acquire, and we discuss client holdings with no one.

The process

Four steps, no obligation at any of them

Three to five working days internationally. A single appointment in Dubai.

  1. I

    Tell us what you hold

A photograph and a report number are usually enough.

  2. II

    An indicative range

Within 24 hours, with the benchmark we used stated plainly.

  3. III

    Physical inspection

In Dubai, through your nearest broker, or by insured courier at our cost.

  4. IV

    Firm offer, same-day settlement

Written, and wired in the currency you choose.

The Network

Headquartered in Dubai.
Present where the market is.

A stone is worth what someone, somewhere, will pay for it — so the value of a valuation depends on how far the valuer can see. Eight desks, four continents, and several relationships older than most firms in this trade.

Frequently asked

The questions sellers actually ask

How does selling to Sayyid & Najjar Co. actually work?

It takes four steps. First, you tell us what you have — a photograph and a certificate number are usually enough to start. Second, we provide an indicative range, normally within 24 hours, based on the documentation and current market levels. Third, we inspect the piece physically, either at our Dubai office, through the broker nearest you, or via insured shipping that we arrange and pay for. Fourth, we make a firm written offer; if you accept, funds are wired the same day. You are under no obligation at any stage, and there is no charge if you decide not to proceed.

What percentage of retail value will I receive?

There is no fixed percentage, and any buyer who quotes one is pricing their business model rather than your asset. A GIA-certified diamond in strong demand may realise 50–70% of its original retail price; a signed Cartier or Van Cleef piece can reach 60–80%; a classic Hermès Birkin frequently exceeds what it cost new; a mass-market gold chain is worth its metal content and nothing more. What drives the figure is the international wholesale value of the specific item, not a formula applied to the receipt.

How do I verify that a GIA certificate is genuine?

Use GIA’s own Report Check database, which is free and public. Enter the report number printed on the document — ten digits on current reports, sometimes seven to nine on older or small-stone reports — together with the carat weight, and GIA returns the grading record held in its archive. Compare every line against your document: shape, measurements, carat weight, colour, clarity, cut, polish, symmetry and fluorescence. Then check the report number laser-inscribed on the diamond’s girdle with a 10x loupe. If the paper and the database disagree in any particular, stop and seek independent advice. Our verification tool passes your query straight to GIA; we never hold or mirror their data.

How long has Sayyid & Najjar Co. been trading?

Since 1983. The house was founded in Dubai by two families already active in the Gulf gem trade, at the point when the city was beginning its transformation into a global centre for physical gold and diamonds. We have traded continuously through every cycle since — the 1997 Asian crisis, 2008, the 2020 shutdown and the volatility that followed. Longevity in this trade is not a marketing line; it is the reason counterparties on four continents accept our word on a stone before they see it.

How private is a transaction with you?

Entirely. We are a private-treaty house: nothing is listed, auctioned, catalogued or advertised. Your name is never attached to an item we acquire, and we do not discuss client holdings with third parties, including other clients. Estate and family-office work is conducted under written confidentiality as standard, and we are accustomed to working alongside lawyers and trustees who require it.

How am I paid?

By your choice of international wire transfer, escrow, or certified bank draft; in Dubai, cash settlement is available within the regulatory reporting thresholds. We settle in AED, USD, EUR, GBP or CHF. Funds are released the same day an offer is accepted for domestic transactions, and on verified receipt for international ones. We do not offer consignment or deferred payment — when we buy, we buy outright, and the money moves immediately.

Begin

A conversation costs nothing. Not knowing what you hold might.

Send a photograph and a certificate number, or simply describe the piece. A principal in Dubai will read it personally and reply within one working day — with a figure, and with the reasoning behind it.
