Terms of Engagement
The basis on which we value, offer, buy and sell — and what the material on this website is, and is not.
Last updated 22 September 2026
01These terms
These terms govern your use of this website and the basis on which Sayyid & Najjar Co. FZE provides valuations, makes offers and completes transactions. They are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates, and the courts of Dubai have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising under them.
Where we have entered into a separate written agreement with you — an estate mandate, an acquisition brief or a purchase contract — that agreement prevails over these terms to the extent of any inconsistency.
02Valuations are opinions, not guarantees
Any valuation, indicative range or estimate we provide is our professional opinion of value at the time it is given, formed on the basis of the information and access available to us. It is not a guarantee of price, a warranty of quality, or a commitment to purchase.
Indicative valuations given from photographs and documentation are necessarily provisional. They are superseded by a firm written offer made after physical inspection, and a firm offer may differ from the indicative range where inspection reveals material facts not evident from the documentation — undisclosed treatment, damage, replacement components, or a discrepancy between a certificate and the item it purports to describe.
03Offers
A firm offer is made in writing and states its own period of validity, normally forty-eight hours, because precious metal and diamond benchmarks move continuously. An offer lapses automatically on expiry unless we confirm an extension in writing.
Acceptance of an offer creates a binding contract of sale on the terms of that offer. Title passes on settlement of funds in full.
04Your warranties as a seller
By offering an item for sale you warrant that you own it outright or are fully authorised to sell it; that it is free of any charge, lien, security interest or third-party claim; that it is not stolen, and is not the subject of any insurance claim, dispute or legal proceedings; and that you have disclosed to us everything you know about its treatment, repair, restoration, alteration and provenance.
These warranties matter. If they prove untrue, we may rescind the transaction and recover any sums paid, and we reserve the right to report matters to the appropriate authorities where we are obliged or entitled to do so.
05Identification and compliance
We are required to verify the identity of counterparties and, above the applicable threshold, to establish evidence of ownership and source of funds or goods. We may decline any transaction, at any stage and without giving reasons, where we are not satisfied on these points.
All rough and polished diamond transactions are conducted under the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme. We apply the principles of the Responsible Jewellery Council to sourcing and supply-chain diligence. We do not deal in goods we believe to be of conflict origin, and we do not proceed where provenance cannot be established to our satisfaction.
06Transport, insurance and risk
Where we arrange transport, goods travel by specialist secure courier under all-risks insurance for the full declared value, at our cost. Risk passes to us on collection by the courier and remains with us until the item is returned to you or the transaction settles.
Where you arrange your own transport, risk remains with you until the item is received and signed for at our office. We strongly recommend that you insure it; we cannot accept responsibility for items in transit outside our arrangements.
07Website content
The educational material on this website — including the diamond guide, certificate verification guidance and pricing commentary — is provided for general information. It is not personalised advice, and it should not be relied on as the sole basis for a purchase, a sale or a valuation decision. Market levels change, sometimes quickly.
Our certificate verification tool passes your query to the Gemological Institute of America’s own public Report Check database. We do not hold, mirror, cache or warrant GIA data, and we are not responsible for the availability or accuracy of GIA’s service. A result returned by GIA is GIA’s statement, not ours.
08Trademarks and independence
Sayyid & Najjar Co. is an independent trading house. We are not affiliated with, authorised by, endorsed by, or acting as an agent of any manufacturer, maison or laboratory named on this website.
GIA®, Report Check and Diamond Dossier® are trademarks of the Gemological Institute of America, Inc. Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Bulgari, Graff, Harry Winston, Tiffany & Co., Patek Philippe, Rolex, Audemars Piguet, Richard Mille, Hermès and Chanel are trademarks of their respective owners. All such names are used solely to describe the categories of goods we purchase and sell, which is a nominative fair use.
09Limitation of liability
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Subject to that, our total liability arising out of or in connection with any transaction is limited to the amount paid or payable by us for the item concerned, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, or loss of opportunity. We accept no liability for decisions taken in reliance on the general educational content of this website.
